Report: TeX Users Group 2001 election

The number of canditates nominated for the open offices in the 2001
TUG election fell short of the number which would require a ballot.

The open positions, as announced, were President and four members
of the Board of Directors.

There was one candidate for President, Mimi Jett, and four candidates
for the Board: Wendy McKay, Patricia Monohon, Arthur Ogawa, and
Michael Sofka.

According to the TUG Election Procedures, when the number of candidates
does not exceed the number of open positions, all candidates who have
met the qualifications are declared elected by acclamation.

The term of the President will expire as of the annual meeting in
2003; the terms of Board members in this class will expire at the
meeting in 2005. The accession of this group will bring the Board
to its full complement of 15 members.

Since no ballots were mailed, TUG members have not had the opportunity
to read the biographies and personal statements of the candidates.
Without this information it is difficult to know each candidate's
particular interests, and their vision for the future of TUG. The
information which would have accompanied the ballot will be published
in the next available issue of TUGboat, to introduce these individuals
to the membership.
