I should kick myself (ouch!)--it's a mistake I should have caught.  Thanks.

I guess the answer to my second question was "\rput".  I've been experimenting and it seems to work fine.

It is a pretty simple mistake: it should xLines, with a capital “L”, and likewise for yLines.
