Ok, in terms of file size Acrobat clearly wins. But this is not related
to the underlying package (animate or aeb_pro), but to the PS to PDF
conversion tool used (ps2pdf or Distiller). Ghostscript's ps2pdf doesn't
produce compressed object streams (/Type/ObjStm) as Distiller does.

animate doesn't exclude the use of Distiller for the final step. If you use
the latter, you will probably get a PDF with a size of about 0.5 MB as
well.
