I have no clue what goes wrong on your side.
However, cretae the document without \savePics.
Then run by hand:

pdftops -f <page> -l <page> -eps <file>-pics.pdf <file.eps>

You can use a bash or shell script which loops through
all pages of the imagefile <file>-pics.pdf
