I see the same thing as Johan, also running Mactex 2008. If I drop pst- 
pdf, the pictures render correctly, though they are not cropped.  
(Running in Latex+dvi mode in TeXShop.) I'm missing pst-pdf.cfg. Could  
that make a difference?
