[pstricks] Compiler question

It appears to me that the only way to get PSTricks input into a TeX document is via DVI - PS - PDF files.

I know how to do that but I would like to think that there is a way to avoid the conversions, rather to go directly from TeX source to PDF.  

Does anyone know if there is a way?
