you basic TeX-System is out of date. Can you test the
files on another updated computer or alternatively, update
the texmf/tex/latex/base directory and rebuild all formats

fmtutil --all

Current LaTeX is

$ latex Test.tex
This is pdfTeXk, Version 3.141592-1.40.6 (Web2C 7.5.6)
entering extended mode
(./Test.tex
LaTeX2e <2005/12/01>
