While waiting for my other post to be moderated through to the list, I 
found a workaround.

With the command

\psframebox{
    \psparbox[c]{4cm}{your long text with a linebreak \\ goes here.}
}

the psframebox will make the box of your choice, and the psparbox will
take care of the formatting. Thus, you could also, in stead of the
psframebox use a psovalbox or ps*box.
