[pstricks] pst-key.tex

trying to resolve the "\input pst-key can't find file .tex" error:

% kpsewhich pst-key.tex

returns

% /usr/local/teTeX/share/texmf.tetex/tex/generic/pstricks/pst-key.tex

I went-ahead and ran texhash but the directories aren't writable.

texhash: /usr/local/teTeX/share/...
/texmf.local: directory not writable. Skipping...
/texmf.gwtex: directory not writable. Skipping...
/texmf.tetex: directory not writable. Skipping...
/texmf: directory not writable. Skipping...
texhash: Updating /var/tmp/texfonts/ls-R...
rm: /var/tmp/texfonts/ls-R: Operation not permitted
mv: rename /var/tmp/texfonts/lsR741.tmp/lsR741.tmp to 
/var/tmp/texfonts/ls-R: Operation not permitted
texhash: Done.

Any worries if I make the /usr/local/teTeX/share/ directory writable?  
Or should I look-again at

ftp://ftp.dante.de/tex-archive/macros/generic/xkeyval?

I can't make heads or tails of the README, run, or source...

Any advice is appreciated, Doug.

what does

kpsewhich pst-key.tex

say?

If nothing, then install this package from CTAN

ftp://ftp.dante.de/tex-archive/graphics/pstricks/generic/pst-key.tex

and put it in any place where TeX finds it and then run texhash.
If you use pstricks-add from http://perce.de/LaTeX/pstricks-add,
then you need pst-xkey, also available from CTAN
