I solved the problem of decoupling the linewidth used to draw round brackets in the (-)
style from the linewidth parameter.  On page 30 of the User's Guide (Arrowheads and such),
one learns that a careful combination of setting the three parameters tbarsize, rbracketlength, and
arrowscale does the trick.  Arrowscale scales the width of the line used to draw the round brackets.
So you make the round brackets oversize using tbarsize and rbracketlength, then shrink them with
arrowscale.

Sorry for the bother --- but it hopefully might alert a few people to PSTricks resources that they had not
yet discovered.
