I get the same trouble as you with my distribution.

\tvput* does not crash but does not give the expected result. In fact, \tvput*{stuff}  is equivalent to \tvput{stuff}: it does not add the \psframebox* around stuff.

By adding your new code for \psput at tput, <tvput* works as expected.
