I bet you use yap to view the dvi. I know yap can display some 
postscript stuff which is totally crazy IMHO. Use dvips to generate a 
real Postscript file and view it with Ghostview then it should work. 
At least it is working fine for me.

Furthermore you should provide a working minimal example which shows 
your problem. It much easier to help you this way.
