This is the PSTricks mailing list, devoted to discussions about computational
graphics in (La)TeX using the PSTricks package from Timothy van Zandt.

D.G.> For the simple test, "latex" take 9 sec. and "dvips" 1 sec. for
D.G.> PSTricks picture and 2 sec. + 9 sec. for EPS graphics. The resulting PS file
D.G.> is 1 MB for PST and 19 MB for EPS.

D.G.> For the complex test, "latex" take 92 sec. and "dvips" 9 sec. for PSTricks
D.G.> picture and 3 sec. + 12 sec. for EPS graphics. The resulting PS file is
D.G.> 14 MB for PST and 26 MB for EPS.

Tamas.Bori> I've got a trick over it, which can dramatically reduce the size of
Tamas.Bori> the EPS-es, the processing times for dvips and the final size of
Tamas.Bori> the resulting PS file, too.
Tamas.Bori> All you have to do, when you create the EPS files from the TeXtoEPS
Tamas.Bori> PST dvi files with dvips -E, put a -h- into the option list of dvips,
Tamas.Bori> and it will 'forget' to include any header file in the EPS.
Tamas.Bori> Then just put the \special{header=xxx.pro} command for the
Tamas.Bori> necessary header files (usually pstricks.pro, pst-node.pro etc.)
Tamas.Bori> into the forepart of the LaTeX file (which then have calls for
    Tamas.Bori> including of the EPS-es).
Tamas.Bori> So all the necessary header files will be then only once in the
Tamas.Bori> final PS file, contrarily to the original case, when the header
Tamas.Bori> files (all the other - non-PSTricks - TeX PS headers too!) would
Tamas.Bori> be occured again with all of the included EPS-es.

This seems absolutely the thing to do if the EPS files were generated with
TeXtoEPS (and if there are a lot of them, as in the specified cases). In my
two tests, I got 1.3 MB and 17.5 MB for the EPS case, so the files are only
a little bigger than when the sources are included and compiled.

  Thanks for the hint.

D.G.
