[pdftex] TeX as a composition server?

Peace, friends.
John meant that LuaTeX can use any font on the computer.
Martin meant that it doesn't use libraries to do so.
There probably was a confusion on the word /library/.
So: LuaTeX can use any font, but you have to kpath-search for them and
extract any info by yourself; you're not helped by fontconfig (although
I suppose you can make LuaTeX read it). And then you can build you own
library, of course (I guess luaotfload -- which isn't built in LuaTeX
but is independent code -- does something like that, to avoid searching
all directories each time a font is called).
So everybody's right. Isn't it wonderful?
