Yes. The command is called "pdflatex". Just enter

pdflatex yourfile

where "yourfile" is the name of your file. You don't even have to  
type the extension (.tex).

Your other question about colour is not really appropiate on this  
mailing list. Have a look at the color package - see http:// 
www.ctan.org/macros/latex/required/graphics/grfguide.pdf .
