[pdftex] personal map files?

Hi Erik,

My question is rather: HOW do I tell pdftex to include additional
    mapfiles

I know this wasn't your question, but you can do it on a document level
with the pdftex primitives \pdfmapfile (and \pdfmapline).

For comparison, for dvips I can add lines like "+lucida.map" to
config.ps, but I do not know how to set this for pdflatex. Is there
a personal configuration file for pdflatex?

I don't think there is a pdftex-specific config file analogous to
config.ps that allows for specifying new maps.

But if you add Map foobar.map to updmap.cfg and rerun updmap, it'll
rebuild both pdftex and dvips (and dvipdfm[m]) maps. That's what I
tried to write about in the Lucida instructions, which boil down to:
updmap-sys --enable Map lucida.map

Other than that, the personal texmf tree that Robin mentioned is the
other way to go.

Best,
Karl
