[pdftex] alternative text for images and equations

Hello,

 

I’m working on some guidelines to help graduate students generate their
LaTeX files in a way they get to be the accessible when converted to pdf. I
wander if it is possible to define alternative text for images and equations
in LaTeX so that when they get converted to pdf they can be read by a screen
reader program like Jaws, for example.
