[pdftex] pdftex graphics primitives and weird font error?!

I now know that my font issue is almost surely a problem of the particular  
adobe font. it was just very old, and thus buggy. I need to purchase a  
newer version, anyway. so, thanks everyone for the help. sorry, I had not  
realized that even adobe created incorrect fonts at some point.

I am now going to undertake a journal into the world of opentype fonts...
