[pdftex] Error message: Too many open files. Correction.

Dear Users,

I have two questions:

1) In a document with more than thousend pages and figures I got the
    Error Message: Too many files open
    I use version 3.141592-1.40.4 (MiKTeX 2.7) and the graphics
    style file with option pdftex.

2) if I abort the pdfteX-run with CTRL-C, dvips will produce a readable 
ps-output but
    under pdfTeX acrobat reader produces an error.
