[pdftex] Pale print with Adobe Reader

What exactly is "garbage"?  There have been problems with font
encodings.  Did you try "dvips -P pdf file.dvi -o"?

Many people find they can live very nicely without using .dvi files.
In the long run, those of us old enough to have learned what exactly
goes in a .dvi file are getting too old to remember, but there are
lots of younger people learning about .pdf files, so as time goes by,
fewer dvi tools will still work, while more and better .pdf tools will
likely appear.
