The last bit seems to have gotten lost in the discussion. As George N. 
White said, pdf images might be more natural if a pdf document is the 
desired end product but the pdf images I get ouf of the snapshot tool 
look a bit suspect to me. Of the bitmap formats, which one works best 
with pdftex? How good is its handling of PNG, really?
