[pdftex] Re: pdftex Digest, Vol 37, Issue 2

I posted some stuff about this a couple of months ago.  (I had trouble
with included figures.)  In the end, the xpdf package has a wonderful
utility, pdftops, which does a lot of this transparently.  (of course,
you need to run unix, but any serious latex user probably does
eventually find that the unix system is more convenient for latex.)
