Hi,

And thanks a lot to all the people who provided their help!

I followed your recipe, and was able to pindown where those
Type 3 fonts were coming from: the fill pattern from some xfig
figures.

I always use "special" labels with xfig, so it will use LaTeX
to typeset the text.  I thought this way there would be no chance
of xfig using other fonts, but I forgot to consider the fill
patterns.  After some googling, I discovered that is indeed
a known issue with xfig.

One lives and learns...
