[pdftex] PDFLaTeX fflush error

oh yes:

open files                    (-n) 1024

thanks a lot! Couldn't find that string anywhere in the sources. But why
is it so with pdflatex, but not with pdfetex. There must be some
difference in the timing of image handling?
