[pdftex] pdfTex on EPOC32

I am writing paper dedicated left and write modules. To distinguish one
from other I need to put part of indexes on left. However in text like
{}_i{}^lA I can see i^l because font size not too small. (When I put it
on the right it looks fine). I tried {}_{{}_i}{}^{{}^l}A. It looks
better, but letter in index appear too small. Is it way to change font
in index or put it higher in the line?
