[pdftex] CBARDEF error from acroread

Hi,

I have patched and compiled pdftex to support
changebar.sty on Solaris. 

pdflatex runs OK but when I open the resulting 
pdf with acroread I get :
An unrecognised token 'CBARDEF:' was found.
 
I would appreciate some pointers in how to debug and
rectify this problem.

versions :
pdftex 1.11b
acroread 5.0.5 (Apr 25 2002)
changebar.sty  v3.5d (could not find 3.4f only 3.4g)
pdftex_changebar_patches_v05
tetex-texmf-2.0.2
