[pdftex] help using basic postscript fonts with TexLive4 CD dated March 1999

Your question is not pdftex related really, and is surely answered in
the TeX faq somewhere, but try using something like:

\usepackage{times}

in your normal documents.  Does that work?  If so, explore the faqs
further.  

NB.  Your 1999 TeXLive CD is very old if you're using pdflatex.
