[pdftex] Pdflatex error: Bad metric (TFM) file

See if the last byte of your *--base.tfm files is 0x90 and the last
two bytes of your other tfm files are 0x90 0xBA. If that's the case
add one byte of 0xBA to all the *--base.tfm files and problem solved.

What version is your OS? Is it SuSE 9? What version is LCDF Typetools?
