[pdftex] Extracting Graphics from PDF

Greetings:

Has there been a package developed for extracting graphics elements 
from pdf similar to the
way pdfpages extracts pages?

The motivation for this is that pdf allows me to display graphics
the way (size and orientation) that I want the recipient of the pdf 
file to see it.  One drawback, as pointed out by my sister,
is that the data would be bound in the pdf file and the graphics can 
not be pulled out and used for other applications.
