In protcode.tex the line
\div\@tempcntb \fontdimen6 #2%
wants to switch me into math mode, rather than use the definition
in abbr.tex. Could \div please be expanded to \divide.
I'd even be happier if abbr.tex could be untangled from protcode.tex.
