make sure you have a file called ot1mgs.fd, which should contain
declaration for OT1/mgs/m/n. ot1-encoded fonts should have `7t' in their
name. The fontinst manual covers a lot of useful information about making
fonts work with latex.
btw, that does the `16t' suffix stand for?
