[pdftex] fonts in pdf images

Hello teXnicians,

I have a problem with including images in pdf format. The main issue
seems to be converting the eps files to pdf via eps2pdf. The .eps images
use the Times-Roman font. After converting them, the resulting PDF files
embed that font instead of using the TimesNewRoman font supplied with
acroread.

Whenever I open the image.pdf or the document containing the image, I
get an error message "Unable to extract the embedded font ..." and the
text part of the image remains blank. I know that this is a bug of the
Linux acrobat reader, and I can also circumvent this by setting LANG=C.
But for a document I want to distribute, this isn't acceptable.

My question is: can I get eps2pdf to not embed the font? This is what
happens on a friend's computer, but I couldn't figure out how to achieve
this behaviour.

For your information, I am using
pdfTeX (Web2C 7.3.1) 3.14159-0.13d
EPSTOPDF 2.5, 1999/05/06
ESP Ghostscript 7.05.4

Any help with this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Kai
