epdf_delete() was killed (that was a fault) in order to avoid a core dump
for
\pdfximage height 4cm {img.pdf}\pdfrefximage\pdflastximage
\pdfximage height 6cm {img.pdf}\pdfrefximage\pdflastximage
(the same pdf image file twice or more on a page).
But this is an exceptional case, and can be avoided by \immediate.
