[pdftex] How to build pdfTeX-20010806 from sources

Hallo,

I'm quite unexperienced in building Linux binaries from sources, and
having solved some basic problems (missing gcc, bison, flex, texmf
tree...) I cannot come beyond this point when trying to compile the
20010806 version of pdfTeX:

When I say "./configure --/datadir=/usr/share", in the src directory,
configure tells me that "ln -s" wouldn't work (though it *does* on that
partition). A Makefile is created, but "make pdftexbin" dies with that
message:

"In file included
from /usr/include/errno.h:36,
from ../kpathsea/c-errno.h:22,
from ../kpathsea/c-std.h:78,
from ../kpathsea/config.h:65,
from tex-file.c:20:
/usr/include/bits/errno.h:25: linux/errno.h: No such file or directory
make[2]: *** [tex-file.lo] Error 1
make[2]: Leaving directory `/usr/pdftex-linux-20010806/src/texk/kpathsea'
make[1]: *** [../kpathsea/libkpathsea.la] Error 2
make[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/pdftex-linux-20010806/src/texk/web2c'
make: *** [pdftexbin] Error 2"

"/usr/include/bits/errno.h" is present.

Can someone tell me what's wrong? Or are there precompiled linux
binaries for the latest pdftex version on the web?

Regards,

Gerolf
