[pdftex] Handling mathfonts in a bookmark

How do I handle a section title that has math in it?
For example

\documentclass{article}
\usepackage{hyperref}

\begin{document}

\tableofcontents
\section{$\alpha$ Alpha}
...
\end{document}

This displays correctly in the body and the table of contents,
however, in Adobe acroreader the \alpha does not show up in the
bookmarks.
Is there a way to tell pdfLaTeX to use a different form for the bookmark
then for the TOC?
