Indeed. There's a unixtex port for BeOS (which has a 64bit file system) 
by Achim Blumensath (at www. www.bebits.com/app/1130).  But when I 
downloaded it some months ago, pdftex still wasn't included. Moreover, 
somebody told me that BeOS is going to die :-(
