This is just my impression, but I just thought I didn't understand the
discussion. Inclusion of image 'liulogo.pdf' on 9 succesive pages gives:
loading : Context Support Macros / PDF
) <liulogo.pdf, id=1, 285.065pt x 285.065pt> <use liulogo.pdf>
[1{/home/fs/fris
k/usr/teTeX/texmf/dvips/config/pdftex.map}{/home/fs/frisk/TeX/mytexmf/pdftex/co
nfig/ttfonts-pdftex.map}{/home/fs/frisk/usr/teTeX/texmf-local/pdftex/config/zpe
u.pdfmap} <./liulogo.pdf>] <use liulogo.pdf> [2] <use liulogo.pdf> [3]
<use liulogo.pdf> [4] <use liulogo.pdf> [5] <use liulogo.pdf> [6]
<use liulogo.pdf> [7] <use liulogo.pdf> [8] <use liulogo.pdf> [9]
(./ustest.aux
) )</home/fs/frisk/usr/teTeX/texmf/fonts/type1/bluesky/cm/cmr10.pfb>
Output written on ustest.pdf (9 pages, 29857 bytes).
And it sure seems that pdftex is reusing liulogo.pdf
