they do kind of, since the plug in model allows them to display pdf; on
windows you can use the apple movie player plug in to display lots of
graphic formats, like png. Unfortunately this is not trivial to set up
since some of those suffix-program relations are set in the file browser,
some are burried in the registry, others are kind of hard coded, etc.

BTW, for some reason adobe limits us in doing real fancy things, sice it
only feeds mov and avi files to the movie plugin, which in itself can
handle not only many formats, but also has a applescript engine which would
open the road to animations.
