I wonder how many printing houses depend on acrobat tools for ripping or 
preparations. Plug ins like crackerjack have their own export filters and 
as far as i can see handle old pdftex output well.

Also, later this week / next week i want to do some tests with pdf/x 
compliance of pdftex.
