[omega] Seeking for a new name for "sign"

At EuroTeX 2005, Adam and Hilmar suggested that "sign" is not a good
name for the concept described in my paper because the term "sign" has
been overloaded by the various disciplines. So we are looking for a new
term, more original and still clear and appealing enough.

It must be more general than character and glyph:

A *** is an atomic unit of text containing a character, a glyph and an
arbitrary number of user-defined properties and their values.

It must be simple enough so that people will eventually stop talking of
"character data" and start talking of "*** data"

It must also be easily translatable in all languages

Some ideas I had (not necessarily good):

CG sign (CG= character + glyph) or C&G sign
unisign
charglyph (difficult to translate)
...

Could you contribute?

TIA
