Very nice indeed. The macros would make a fine addition to a MF
tools section on CTAN.

Can this be made into a *useful* alternative to Jacko's
MF marcos?
When writing macros common to MF and MP, is there
a *conventional* way for macros to decide which of MF or MP
is running?
