Daniele is right: your example works, but this fails:

\documentclass{article}
\usepackage[math]{iwona}
\begin{document}
$\Vert a \Vert$ $\| a \|$
\end{document}

Daniele, as Will says you should write to the package author. In your terminal type

texdoc iwona

and in the first page of the package documentation you'll find the email address.
