Hi Tobias,

The kerns in Computer Modern itself are unlikely to ever change again;
Knuth wants the original TeX, MF, and CM to be stable points on which
others can build.

You may want to try your kern pair using the Latin Modern fonts (e.g.,
ec-lmr10.tfm) and if it's still problematic, report it to the LM
maintainers.  I don't believe LM is frozen the way CM is.
