[OS X TeX] TLU critical update failure

Murray,

The problem occurred because tlmgr itself was updated. There are two ways
that such an update can be installed. The easy way is the command

	sudo tlmgr update --self

But an even safer method, if tlmgr gets hopelessly mangled, is to update it
using a TUG script called update-tlmgr-latest.sh.

Since Adam Maxwell is a meticulous programmer, he selected the second method
to use in TeX Live Utility when a tlmgr update is required.

Unfortunately, it is now clear that update-tlmgr-latest.sh is broken on Macs.
This is being debugged by experts, and it may take a while to fix. Note that
there is nothing wrong in TLU; the bug is in a TUG script which TLU calls.

The command "sudo tlmgr update --self" ONLY UPDATES the tlmgr code.
It does not continue to update TeX Live. This command works fine currently.

Thus you can safely call

	sudo tlmgr update --self

After that call, TLU will work and you can continue to update as usual.

Dick
