[OS X TeX] TeX and DVI in beamer problem

these are AUCTeX settings configured via local variables, as in, for example

%%% Local Variables:
%%% coding: utf-8
%%% mode: latex
%%% TeX-engine: xetex
%%% TeX-master: t
%%% End:
