[OS X TeX] strange behavior

I work from two computers—an iMac in my office and a MacBook Pro at home—which are coordinated through dropbox. I try to keep both on the same version of TeXShop. Recently, I found when working on creating a homework assignment on the office iMac that a certain macro was not being recognized. On that Mac, if I created a “minimal example” asking it only to print the result of that macro, it worked fine. But in the context of the homework assignment, it called it an undefined symbol. However, on my home computer the identical source file for the whole assignment compiles fine. What can I look for to fix the problem?
