[OS X TeX] TeXShop 3.80 hangs after X abort of typesetting

The last paragraph tells me that you could at least avoid the whole "open in TextEdit, make a new file" thing. The difference is because the aux file (or some other auxiliar file produced by LaTeX) got corrupted. Doing File->Trash Aux Files will save you from this workaround.
