On a Mac and installed by MacTeX all of the TeX Live files are stored in /usr/local/texlive/YEAR/ where YEAR is the year of that distribution (e.g., /ust/local/texlive/2016/ for the full TeX Live 2016.

You can add personal files to /usr/local/texlive/texmf-local (for use by all users of a given system) or ~/Library/texmf (for use by a single user). The procedures for adding personal files are slightly different for the two locations.

There is a `What is Installed' document, installed by MacTeX, in /Applications/TeX that has a bit more information about this.

Good Luck,
