[OS X TeX] \langle does not display as such in the Index

Howdy,

Have you tried

\index{{\(\angle\)}} or \index{$\langle$}? It seems to work fine for the makeidx package for me.

%%!TEX TS-program = pdflatexmk
\documentclass{article}
\usepackage{makeidx}
\makeindex
\begin{document}
Here's an indexed item; \(\langle\)\index{\(\langle\)}.
\printindex
\end{document}
