Did that on my 10.9.5 machine, works flawlessly now.

On the 10.6.8 machine I found I have that file.  It was created 2017-04-12 (12 April ’15) so I think it is a remainder of TL 2015-pretest.  But then, the pretest version was installed on both machines – how come release-texlive.txt is preserved on just one of them?
